Misdemeanors
This is a violation of the law punishable by
less than a year of incarceration, a fine, or
both. This violation is a greater offense than an
infraction, but a lesser offense than a
felony.
Examples of Misdemeanors:
Disorderly
Conduct
Any acts that may provoke a public disturbance.
These tend to vary from state to state, but some
of the most common examples are disturbance of the
peace, loitering, inciting a riot, obstructing
traffic, physical confrontations, or creating
unreasonable noise.
Petty
Theft
The taking of another’s property without their
consent, the value of which is less than $500.
Prostitution
To engage in or solicit any sexual act for
compensation.
Simple
Assault
When one purposely or recklessly injures, or
attempts to injure another without the use of a
weapon. Injuries received must typically require
less than two days of hospitalization.
Public
intoxication
Having a .08% blood alcohol concentration in a
public place, or having the perceived loss of
faculties due to the consumption of alcohol, any
controlled drug, or a combination of the two.
Trespass
The unwarranted entrance of another’s property
without their consent.
Vandalism
The destruction or defacement of another’s
property, either private or public, without the
owner or governing body’s
consent.
